The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced they will return to Phoenix in 2017, bringing the promotion to the Valley of the Sun for the first time in over two years as UFC Fight Night will be held at Talking Stick Arena on January 15. The event will air live on Fox Sports 1.
The UFC last held an event in Phoenix in December 2014, which aired live on Fox and was headlined by a bout between Junior Dos Santos and heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. The card featured several fighters who would go on to win championships shortly thereafter, including Miocic, Rafael Dos Anjos and Joanna Jędrzejczyk.
Three bouts have been signed for this event, as heavyweight Damien Grabowski (20-4, 0-2 UFC) faces Viktor Pesta (10-3, 1-3 UFC), Cyril Asker (7-2, 0-1 UFC) meets Dmitry Smoliakov (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) also at heavyweight, and light heavyweights Joachim Christensen (13-4, 0-1 UFC) squares off with Bojan Mihajlovic (10-4, 0-1 UFC). A main event will be announced at a later date.
Tickets will go on sale for UFC Fight Night Phoenix later in the month.
