LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) CEO Ed Soares announced earlier this month that LFA will make its first visit to Colorado in February. This will be the fifth LFA event after the strategic merger between leading developmental organizations Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) and Legacy Fighting Championship (Legacy FC).

It was announced that the main event of LFA 5 will feature a lightweight war between hometown destroyer Marcus “Bad Intentions” Edwards and scintillating Tennessean Adam “Prime Time” Townsend in a high-stakes showdown that has already been circled by many as an early favorite for “Fight of the Year”. LFA 5 – Edwards vs. Townsend takes place Friday, February 24th at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The entire main card of LFA 5 – Edwards vs. Townsend will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

Now in the newly announced co-main event of LFA 5, undefeated Colorado dynamo Cory Sandhagen (5-0) will look to defend his home turf against fellow RFA standout Jamall “Pretty Boy” Emmers (10-3) in a battle of two two of the sport’s most promising featherweight prospects.

By the time Sandhagen entered the pro ranks of MMA, the excitement among fight fans in “The Centennial State” had already reached a fever pitch. Widely-regarded as the next big thing to come from the talent-rich state of Colorado, Sandhagen burst on to the global MMA landscape in style. He did so twelve months ago by defeating fellow prospect Andrew Tenneson in a wildly entertaining “Fight of the Year” candidate at RFA 34. Once the cat was out of the bag, regarding Elevation Fight Team’s best kept secret, there was no looking back. The WKA kickboxing world champion won three more bouts in 2016, which culminated in a dominant Unanimous Decision victory over fellow RFA standout Clay Wimer at RFA 43 in September.

The fighter assigned to engage in fisticuffs with Sandhagen in the LFA 5 co-headliner is none other than Jamall “Pretty Boy” Emmers. This is the prospect many consider to rival Sandhegen as the RFA’s biggest featherweight breakthrough star of 2016.

Emmers went up a weight class in his RFA debut last June to face reigning RFA lightweight champion Thiago Moisés on one week’s notice. UFC President Dana White was sitting cageside filming hit reality series “Dana White: Lookin’ For A Fight” that night and gave rave reviews on the heart and skill possessed by “Pretty Boy”. The UFC boss also added that he would be keeping an eye on Emmers despite his shortcoming in the fifth round of his title fight with Moisés. Emmers quickly proved that Dana White’s eye for talent was correct, one month later, when he dropped back down to his natural weight class of 145-pounds and dominated the co-main event of RFA 41 en route to a one-sided Unanimous Decision victory.

The main card of LFA 5 will also feature be the promotional debut of Colorado’s top middleweight prospect Ian “The Hurricane” Heinisch (7-0), who recently signed a multi-fight deal with the LFA. The two-time Colorado state wrestling champion from Ponderosa High School will bring his perfect MMA record into the LFA Octagon when he meets Brazilian powerhouse Lucas Rota (12-6). Rota has won eight of his last nine bouts over the past four years. The signature win during that run came at RFA 11, when he defeated local fan favorite Vinnie Lopez via KO in a back-and-forth war. Rota will now look to duplicate that success in the very same venue on February 24th.

In September, RFA and Legacy FC officials announced that they would be merging to form the premier developmental organization in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) starting in January 2017. RFA and Legacy FC have launched the careers of over 100 athletes that have reached the pinnacle of MMA by competing in the UFC. RFA has hosted eight events in the state of Colorado that were televised live and worldwide.

The entire fight card for LFA 5 – Edwards vs. Townsend and further information regarding this event will be announced soon. LFA 5 will be the promotion’s first event to take place in “The Centennial State” of Colorado. The entire main card of LFA 5 will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on Friday, February 24th.
