WELTERWEIGHT WAR

FRIDAY, MAY 5th LIVE on AXS TV

COMERICA THEATRE in PHOENIX, ARIZONA

Tickets are on sale NOW through http://www.comericatheatre.com/

HOUSTON, Texas – Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) CEO Ed Soares announced today that the LFA will be headed to Arizona for the first time on Cinco de Mayo. This will be the eleventh LFA event to take place after the strategic merger between leading developmental organizationsResurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) and Legacy Fighting Championship (Legacy FC).

The main event of LFA 11 will feature an explosive middleweight battle between two of the most vaunted finishers in the division. The headliner will see dynamic Australian annihilator Matthew “Thunder From Down Under” Frincu clash with surging regional kingpin Daniel “DemiGod” Madrid. LFA 11 – Frincu vs. Madrid takes place Friday, May 5th at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. The entire main card will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

“I am excited to bring the LFA to Arizona on May 5th,” stated Soares. “Arizona fight fans have a guaranteed action-fight with Matthew Frincu vs. Daniel Madrid in the headliner. Frincu looked amazing in his LFA debut and Madrid has been unbeatable in nearly four years. LFA 11 will carry on the long and storied tradition of great combat sporting events that have taken place on Cinco de Mayo weekend.”

LFA 11 Fincu vs Madrid

Tickets for LFA 11 – Frincu vs. Madrid are available for purchase NOW at ComericaTheatre.com. You can also support your favorite fighter by going to CombatTickets.com and choosing their name at check out.

Frincu (10-2) looked incredible in his LFA debut at LFA 5 in February. The native of Gold Coast, Australia bludgeoned his opponent Kris Hocum over three rounds in a wildly impressive tour de force of striking brilliance. That night in Colorado in late February, Frincu taught a masterclass on how to effectively utilize range and Muay Thai technique to dismantle a high-level grappler in an MMA fight. Now the talented Australian is looking to duplicate that success as he moves up to middleweight to face Madrid in the LFA 11 headliner.

Madrid (13-4) has seen his stock rise over the past four years like the Sonoran Desert heat in the middle of summer. This is due to the fact that “DemiGod” has finished his last six opponents in his last six fights. The well-traveled Madrid has competed in Russia, China, and Hawaii over the course of his impressive career, but will now enjoy the home crowd advantage at LFA 11. He will look to take full advantage of the of his hometown Arizona atmosphere in an effort to pick up his seventh consecutive stoppage victory.

The co-main event of LFA 11 will feature the LFA debut of one of the most successful welterweights in RFA history. That would be none other than The MMA LAB standout James Nakashima (6-0). The former NCAA Division I wrestler was the main training partner of eventual Olympic gold medalist and all-time great Jordan Burroughs at the University of Nebraska before making the jump to MMA. All Nakashima has seen since switching from the mats to the cage is gold and he will look to continue that success in the co-main event of LFA 11.

The man looking to put the first blemish on Nakashima’s record is a man known for being a wrestler’s kryptonite. That would be Power MMA product LaRue “The Cannibal” Burley (7-2). Burley is the man responsible for handing former NCAA Division I national champion wrestler Bubba Jenkins his first loss in MMA at Bellator 100. He then repeated the feat by handing NCAA Division II national champion wrestler T.J. Hepburn his first loss in MMA at RFA 25. Burley finished Jenkins and Hepburn with a ferocious style that he will undoubtedly look to unleash at LFA 11.

The currently announced card is as follows:

Main Card (Televised on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT):

Main Event | Middleweight Bout (185 lbs)

– Matthew Frincu vs. Daniel Madrid

Co-Main Event | Welterweight Bout (170 lbs)

– James Nakashima vs. LaRue Burley

Welterweight Bout (170 lbs)

– Kyle Stewart vs. Maycon Mendonça

Flyweight Bout (125 lbs)

– Bruno Silva vs. Casey Kenney

Bantamweight Bout (135 lbs)

– David Nuzzo vs. Sean O’Malley

In September 2016, RFA and Legacy FC officials announced that they would be merging to form the premier developmental organization in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) starting in January 2017. Legacy FC and RFA have launched the careers of over 100 athletes that have reached the pinnacle of MMA by competing in the UFC.

LFA 11 will serve as the first LFA event to take place in the state of Arizona. Furthermore, it will be the first time the LFA has traveled to “The Grand Canyon State” before or after the merger. The entire main card of LFA 11 will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

Please visit LFAfighting.com for bout updates and information. LFA is on Facebook at Legacy Fighting Alliance. LFA is also on Instagram at @LFAfighting and Twitter at @LFAfighting.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – Several fighters from both Bellator 177: Dantas vs. Higo and Bellator Kickboxing 6 gathered in Budapest this morning to speak with the media about their upcoming fights this Friday night inside the Budapest Sports Arena.

Two titles will be on the line, as Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas defends his Bellator bantamweight belt against former LFA champ Leandro Higo, while Bellator kickboxing welterweight titleholder Zoltan Laszak takes on Karim Ghajji in a championship rematch.

Bellator 177: Dantas vs. Higo will be broadcast Friday, April 14 on SPIKE at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, while Bellator Kickboxing 6 will air immediately following the MMA portion of the event, beginning at 11pm ET/10pm CT.

Below, you can find quotes from today’s press conference.

Bellator Bantamweight World Champion Eduardo Dantas:

“Thank you to Bellator for supporting me and thank you Budapest for the opportunity.”

“I’m very happy to be here. I want to say thank you to my opponent for accepting this fight. And I’m ready to show you what I do best, which is to punch his face.”

Leandro Higo:

“Thank you to Bellator for the opportunity. Thank you, Budapest, for the reception. I’m very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to putting on a good show this Friday!”

“I feel no extra pressure because I’m here to do what I love, which is fighting. I’m looking forward to winning another championship belt.”

Adam Borics:

“I’d like to welcome all of you. This is one of the biggest opportunities of my life. I’m very much looking forward to the fight and I’m well prepared, so I can’t wait. I was fortunate enough to prepare for this fight in America with great professional coaches like Henri Hooft.”

“I’m ready. I can hardly wait for my arm to be lifted at the end.”

Anthony Taylor

“Welcome! Welcome! How’s it going? I am the “Pretty Boy”, the prettiest of them all. I definitely want to thank Budapest and Bellator for bringing me in. Of course, I bring numbers, you know, so I’m expecting this should bring over a million viewers, hands down.”

“I want to thank you all for coming here and showing the support. We’re going to put on a show – one hell of a show. We’re going to get these ratings up and have so much fun. Definitely.”

“Hands down, pound for pound, everyone knows I am the strongest 145-er in the division and if anybody stands in my way or stands in the middle of the cage and wants to bang with me, they’re gonna get knocked out. I kid you not! Anybody in the featherweight division stands toe to toe with me is going to get knocked out.”

“I’m not going to take nothing from this man. He has a 9-0 record so he’s definitely put in work. He beat up nine people, but it doesn’t mean he’s going to beat up me. I tell you that! But I give him credit because he’s coming out here and sacrificing his time and being away from his family to put in his work just as I am. We’re going to put on a show for all you fans out there and all you media out there.”

“You know in my eyes, this is the main event: The Hungarian versus the American. Everyone wants to see this fight. They want to see what is this man can do with a record of 9-0. He earned his wins and I respect him as a fighter. But after Friday he will be 9-1.”

Bellator Kickboxing Welterweight World Champion Zoltan Laszak

“I’d like to thank Bellator very much for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to this this rematch with Ghajji. This is a great chance to really entertain and I appreciate the support from all of the Hungarian fans. I feel their cheers and support every day.”

“This is the most important fight of my life because there has been much more promotion here in Budapest leading up to the event. I realize that most people in the arena will be cheering for me, and for Hungary. I’ve done my preparation and my homework. I’m excellently prepared and I’m looking forward to this challenge.”

Karim Ghajji

“Thank you for the rematch. It was a big mistake in the first fight. Now I’m going to make it right and bring the belt back home to France.”

“Two days before the first fight I was sick and I had dealt with injuries during that camp, but this time I had a great camp, I’ve prepared myself very well, and this will be an explosive fight on Friday.”

“THE CALIFORNIA KID” URIJAH FABER HEADLINES UFC® HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2017 AS FIRST INDUCTEE

Las Vegas – UFC® today announced that mixed martial arts legend, long-standing UFC bantamweight and former WEC® featherweight champion Urijah Faber has been selected as the first inductee for the UFC Hall of Fame class of 2017. The 2017 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 6 in Las Vegas.

“Urijah Faber has been one of the most charismatic MMA stars to have ever stepped into the Octagon and I’m excited to announce him as the first inductee of the UFC Hall of Fame class of 2017,” UFC President Dana White said. “From his early days as a featherweight champion, to his decade-long career with UFC, he has made a lasting impact on the sport of MMA. He proved that the smaller weight classes could create big stars and put Sacramento on the map by building one of the strongest camps in the sport, where he coached some of the most talented athletes in the world. His legacy will continue with this next chapter as one of the best athletes to ever compete in the sport.”

Faber, who will make history as the first athlete inducted from the bantamweight or featherweight divisions, will enter the UFC Hall of Fame as a member of the Modern Wing, joining Forrest Griffin (2013) and BJ Penn (2015) as the only members of this distinguished category. The Modern era category includes athletes who turned pro on or after November 17, 2000 (when the unified rules were adopted), is a minimum age of 35 or has been retired for one year or more.

“As a fighter, you don’t take time to sit back and smell the roses when you are going through your career,” Faber said. “You’re always looking to the future, the next fight, the next camp, the next training session. To have UFC tell you that what you contributed and accomplished over the course of your career is worthy of being remembered for years to come is humbling. I’m so honored. It’s crazy that for so much of my career everyone said I was naïve to think I’d ever get the chance to fight in UFC, and now I’m going to be in the UFC Hall of Fame. It’s going to be a special night for me, my family, friends and teammates in July when I am inducted.”

Faber debuted in WEC on March 17, 2006 at WEC 19, becoming the WEC featherweight champion after defeating Cole Escovedo. His victory would secure his third professional MMA title, as he premiered in WEC following five title defenses as the King of the Cage® bantamweight champion and three as the Gladiator Challenge bantamweight champion, respectively.

Upon WEC being purchased by Zuffa, LLC in 2006, Faber would make five successful featherweight title defenses between 2006-08 and headlined the organization’s only Pay-Per-View event. With an impressive career that spanned 13 years, Faber compiled a record of 34-10, which included 19 submissions, seven knockouts and 11 post-fight performance awards.

Urijah Faber UFC Hall of Fame

One of Faber’s most impressive contributions to the sport of MMA took shape in 2004 when he established the now world-renowned “Team Alpha Male” in his adopted hometown of Sacramento, California. Since its introduction to the sport of MMA, Team Alpha Male has produced numerous world-class athletes, including current UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, top-ranked UFC flyweight Joe Benavidez, UFC strawweight Paige VanZant and UFC featherweight Chad Mendes.

A native of Isla Vista, California, Faber entered professional MMA competition shortly following a three-year (2000-03) collegiate wrestling career at UC – Davis, where he qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships twice, placed at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, set all-time Aggie records in victories (92) and dual wins (42), while graduating with a bachelor’s degree in human development. After earning his degree, Faber spent time as a member of the Aggie’s coaching staff before entering MMA full-time.

The remaining inductees of the UFC Hall of Fame class of 2017 will be announced in the coming weeks leading to the 6th Annual UFC International Fight Week™, which takes place from Wednesday, July 5 through Saturday, July 8 in Las Vegas.
